Fushimi Inari Taisha at a glance
Fushimi Inari Taisha is a Shinto shrine in Fukakusa, in the Fushimi district of Kyoto. The address is 68 Fukakusa Yabunouchi-cho, Fushimi-ku, Kyoto 612-0882. It is known for its paths of red torii gates that climb Mount Inari, and it is dedicated to Inari Okami, who is linked with rice harvests, trade and business.
You can walk the grounds at any hour. There is no entry fee and no closing day. Prayer requests, amulets and guided tours have their own daytime hours and prices, and those are covered on the pages below.

What this guide covers
An independent site, written for visitors.
This guide explains how a visit works: how long the Mount Inari loop takes, what the torii donations are, when the prayer hall and amulet counters are open, how the trains run and how to combine the shrine with the rest of Kyoto. It is not the website of the shrine, of Kyoto City or of any rail operator, and it has no connection to tour operators or hotels. Rules of the shrine are described as the shrine states them.
A visit can be short or long. The lower shrine and the first torii tunnels take as long as you like. The full walk around the mountain is about 4 km and takes roughly 2 to 3 hours with breaks.

A few things to know before you plan
The points visitors most often mix up.
Open 24 hours means the grounds
The grounds are open day and night. Prayer requests run from 08:30 to 16:30, and the amulet counter works in daytime hours. Entering closed buildings such as the main hall is not allowed.
Opening hours โEntry is free, a guided tour is optional
You do not need a ticket. A paid tour is an extra for people who want a guide, not an entry fee. A guided shrine tour in English is listed at JPY 4,000 per paying participant.
Tours โAbout 10,000 gates, not exactly 1,000
Senbon Torii means "thousand torii", but the name does not give a count. The shrine speaks of roughly 10,000 gates of all sizes along the mountain paths.
Torii gates โTrain fares from Osaka
The Keihan fare from Yodoyabashi in Osaka to Fushimi-Inari is JPY 480 one way, on the fare table revised on 1 October 2025.
Day trip from Osaka โWild boar on the mountain
The shrine has warned of wild boar on Mount Inari (notice of 28 December 2025). Do not approach or feed wild animals, and take extra care on the upper paths.
The hike โKyoto accommodation tax
Since 1 March 2026, overnight stays in Kyoto City carry a tax of JPY 200, 400, 1,000, 4,000 or 10,000 per person and night, depending on the room rate.
